Letter IV Questions
- What
has happened in the relationship between Screwtape
and Wormwood?
- How is it that Satan wants
us to view prayer? Do you agree that bodily position is critical in the
success of your prayer?
- Do you ever feel that your
daily prayers are reputations, and if so does this cause you to feel your
prayer has any less value with God?
- Describe the essence of
what is being said in the third paragraph. Have you ever felt the results
that Screwtape is referring to? (Note that the
first sentence uses the word “misdirection”.)
- In the
final paragraph who are the “other two Persons” Screwtape
is referring to?
- What dangers are Screwtape referring to when he speaks about the
patient keeping eyes on an object hanging on the wall? When you pray do
you envision God or do you envision the subject of that point in your
prayer?
- What do you think is meant
by ” In avoiding this situation—this real nakedness
of the soul in prayer—you will be helped by the fact that the humans
themselves do not desire it as much as they suppose. There's such a thing
as getting more than they bargained for!”?
