Abstract -

In today's message Pastor Don uniquely ties the parable of the Sowing of Seeds in with life at a county fair.  He ask the question "What makes the difference is the soil, all hear the same speaker, all heard the same message"?

Introduction:

I enjoy Fairs, I try to go to the NY State fair every year.

My wife and I had our first date at West Alexander Pa. fair.

Usually fairs were an extension of the farm season. Live stock shows, can goods, flowers, quilts.  “Farming is the oldest occupation in the world” Garden of Eden, Cain, Able.

Jesus told this parable. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Jesus spoke of soils. Matthew 13:18-23 is Jesus’ explanations of this teaching.

#I         Vs. 19 Seeds on the path.

a.       Path is an area of hard packed down soil.

b.      Sowing grain.

c.       Grain just laid on top of the ground.

d.      Hard heart

e.       Usually takes a crises to change them.

#II        Vs. 20-21

a.       They usually come looking for what they can get.

b.      Jesus has called us to serve.

c.       Services put the roots of commitment deep into the soil of a Christian.

#III      Vs.22

a.       Some people listen to the message of the world.

b.      Some people listen to the sound of their money jingling in their pocket.

c.       I shake my head in wonder.

#IV      Vs.23

a.       What makes the difference is the soil, all hear the same speaker, all heard the same message.

b.      The Spiritual soil serves.

c.       Josie was at camp.

d.      We are called to be faithful.

e.       God will give the increase.

Conclusion:

            God wants to do a great work in you.
