"Blessings" (Genesis 27:1-4)

Abstract - Today's message was delivered on Father's Day 2009, and therefore its theme is based on what a blessing being a father is.  Pastor Don uses four passages around Jacob being a blessing to Isaac, and how fathers can be a great dad and example for their family.  Starting with the importance of touch, having a message of affection, showing high value, and providing a example by planting seeds for your child's future.

Gods blessing Genesis 12:1-9

The term father has been used in many ways. Geo. Washington father of our country.

Term earthly father  means to bring into being, to nourish.

Cautions in Matthew 23:9.

In marriage “husband” means house band. To guard, provide protect like a “moat”

Husbandry as in animal or agriculture means to care for.

The father passed on blessings.

There are four parts to Isaac blessing of Jacob.

#I         A meaningful touch. Genesis 27:22&26

#II        A spoken message of affection and love. Vs. 27

b.      Men let me give you a father day line to say to your children. “ My fathers day is special because you were born to me.”

#III      The attributing of high value. Vs. 28

a.       You are special because God gave His best for you.

b.      Hebrews 4:2

#IV      Plant seeds for their future. Vs. 29

a.       Give them a vision of what they can be.

b.      Proverbs 22:6

Jacobs name changed to Israel meaning striver with God.
