0831- "Commitment" (Colossians 3:1-17)  Archived

Pastor Don starts today's message on commitment with stories of some of the more humorous weddings he has presided over.  But in all cases the wedding is over in one day, and then the marriage starts.  Without exception a marriage is a great example of how commitment involves change.  Jesus is a great example of how we should be in our change.  And, we can look to His Word to help us grow in wisdom and commitment.

0832- "Preparing for the Harvest" (John 4:1-43)  Archived

As fall 2008 approaches, Pastor Don uses this time to illustrate a passage often touted for being one of the best chapters in the Bible by which to witness to someone just being introduced to Jesus.  Before you can harvest you need to plant.  In doing so we do it in trust, trust that while we may never get to bring in the harvest, we are providing a potential for the harvest.  This is easy if we understand that there is power in God's Word.  As a Christian we are forever optimistic for the harvest.  Are you ready for it?

0833a- "His Divine Power" (II Peter 1:3)  Archived

This message is part of a series (see messages 0833a - 0833e) delivered by Pastor Bud Yoder during LCCC's 2008 Family Enrichment Event. Pastor Bud is an evangelist preacher from Cogan Station, PA. Because he does not develop and deliver his message from notes there will be no Outline detail below. To follow is a synopsis of this message.

Pastor Bud challenges the local church to actually do well what it declares it is in existence for. The church is to be alive! As individuals we can not be "undercover Christians". People need to know you're a Christian. We must be willing to be "interrupted" or "inconvenienced" to be a true Christian. Think of all of the unsaved people that need you to testify to them, maybe only through prayer, or just asking them to come to church. We need to come out of our "comfort zone". Pastor Bud calls us to be a testimony this week. It all starts by saying "I believe in God today". "Use what you have, do what you can. Start by participating." He continues by saying that we, like the local church, must be a survivor. Next, have faith, goodness, and knowledge. Every morning we should thank God for forgiving us of our past sins.

0833b- "Surviving The Test" (II Corinthians 13)  Archived

This message is part of a series (see messages 0833a - 0833e) delivered by Pastor Bud Yoder during LCCC's 2008 Family Enrichment Event.  Pastor Bud is an evangelist preacher from Cogan Station, PA.  Because he does not develop and deliver his message from notes there will be no Outline detail below.  To follow is a synopsis of this message.

Pastor Bud's message tonight is focused on sin and evil, and continues with the theme of our need to communicate to all around us the importance of being saved. God puts a pastor in place to lead a local church. He gives the pastor the vision for that church. You will never build a church until its people become loyal to God. Tonight's message is about being kingdom people. Luke 17. Evil and sin is a choice, and God hates it. Four kinds of people in the world - first are the cop -outs, next the hold-outs, then the fall-outs, and finally the all-outs. The all-outs are the core group of any church. Pastor Bud asks the question "why is sin so strong among Christians"? Only through fear of the consequences do we have hope. When God says this is what it will take to cure you, do you think that price is too high? Reasons why people sin - people sin because sin feeds on selfishness, because they choose to sin, because they are weak, people sin because they have the wrong friends, people sin because sin is easy, because they are socially driven to sin, people in because the become desperate, people sin because they love the world, and finally, people sin because they ignore the consequences.

0833d- "Discipleship and Duplicate"  Archived

This message is part of a series (see messages 0833a - 0833e) delivered by Pastor Bud Yoder during LCCC's 2008 Family Enrichment Event.  Pastor Bud is an evangelist preacher from Cogan Station, PA.  Because he does not develop and deliver his message from notes there will be no Outline detail below.  To follow is a synopsis of this message.

Tonight's message continues with a focus on developing and growing the local church, but more importantly, individually growing as a disciple. Pastor Bud places heavy emphasis on the importance of discipleship and how it is an instrumental part on the road of becoming an effective Christian. It is also a precursor to being able to duplicate yourself as a Christian. When you duplicate you disciple an individual, helping them grow in their faith and in Christianity. Think of it - If everyone in a church of 50 in size were to duplicate through discipleship in a year, the next year that church would be 100 in size. But more importantly another 50 people would be on their way to eternal life with Christ!

0833e- "Are You A Water Walker?"  Archived

This message is part of a series (see messages 0833a - 0833e) delivered by Pastor Bud Yoder during LCCC's 2008 Family Enrichment Event.  Pastor Bud is an evangelist preacher from Cogan Station, PA.  Because he does not develop and deliver his message from notes there will be no Outline detail below.  To follow is a synopsis of this message.

Well - it is the fifth and final message from Pastor Bud for the 2008 Family Enrichment Event, and he puts away his usual humor and is asking "Are you willing to get out of the boat? He goes on to introduce the "Water Walker" and three characteristics of a Water Walker.

"The problem is not that men die, it's that they never live!" Like that with Peter and his walking on water, sometimes Jesus has a lesson that is just for me. And then, right when I think I am learning what Jesus has for me, or my walk with Him is the best it has ever been, I take my eyes off of my Savior and I begin to sink. Pastor Bud says first, "Water Walkers" must recognize God's presence. Second, Water Walkers discern between faith and foolishness. But you can't be a Water Walker until you get out of the boat!  What is your boat, or that thing that makes you not take that step in faith?  Finally, "Water Walkers accept fear as a price of growth."  Believe that being a Water Walker may be your way to be the greatest you can be - it's a way to really live!  We must come out of our comfort zone (get out of the boat) and be inconvenienced to be a Water Walker.  In this message Pastor Bud gives a heart-felt plea to start now, it is so important, time is quickly getting away.

0834- "Finding God When You Need Most - In Times of Confusion" (Psalm 90)  Archived

Pastor Don is on vacation and Ed Windhausen (himself an ordained minister) is filling in with this weekend's message.

We live in a time where life comes at us fast, and there can be much confusion.  Ed begins with defining three ways to clear up confusion, and then goes on to provide a biblical reference based on the life of Moses.  Starting with the statement "you need to be rightly related with God, and continuing with life is short, sin is serious, wisdom is essential, mercy is available, and with success is possible.  Finally, Ed concludes his message with 6 declarations from Psalms 90 he believes helped Moses overcome life's confusion.

0835- "How Fast Is A Flash?" (Luke 17:20-36)  Archived

Pastor Don is still on vacation and Elder Steve Vlasak is filling in with this weekend's message.  We seem to be hung up on being able to know when the Lord's return will be, like we might be able to get our spiritual life straight just before it happens.  Steve uses Luke 17 to discuss this issue, but first starts with defining two issues very much relative to the Lord's return, "What is Eternity?", and "What is the end of the world?".  After understanding that you should not focus on looking for the Lord's return but on being ready for it, he goes on to define what it takes to get to spend eternity with the Lord.  When the Lord returns in a flash are you going to be asking "What just happened?"
